Inova Solutions LED displays available through Anixter to increase campus safety
Richmond, VA – August 4, 2008 – From the Governor’s Campus Preparedness Conference, Inova Solutions, Inc. announced that its OnAlert™ mass notification system, which is a new campus security solution that displays alerts on network-powered LED signs, will be installed at Virginia Tech University. These highly visible LED displays are powered by a single network connection using standard Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology to provide both power and data to the displays.
Virginia Tech has purchased 220 OnAlert displays to deliver focused information to the university’s classrooms and teaching spaces. The displays will provide continuous value as they display the time and date when there are no messages to present.
OnAlert provides an easy but secure way for authorized school officials to issue emergency alerts on LED displays. “The OnAlert displays are visible from over 100 feet and the Power over Ethernet design allows them to operate on only 12 watts of power,” said Gerry Gorman, Vice President at Inova Solutions. “The low-energy usage makes them a ‘green’ product that is inexpensive to install and operate.”
The OnAlert displays for the Virginia Tech project were purchased through Anixter (www.anixter.com, 1-800-ANIXTER). “Anixter is excited to be part of a project that incorporates Power over Ethernet technology into campus safety and security solutions,” said Brent Streetman, Vice President Marketing – Security Solutions. "As organizations continue to update and enhance their security systems, we look for new, innovative products to add to our portfolio to assist them with their efforts. We feel the product features of Inova’s OnAlert displays are of particular value as customers migrate their security systems to Ethernet networks.”
OnAlert Power over Ethernet (PoE) LED Displays
Inova Solutions’ OnAlert PoE LED displays deliver synchronized time, non-emergency and emergency messages across a campus in one simple appliance. They plug directly into a standard Ethernet jack to obtain messaging, time and power from a single network connection, so no AC outlets are needed. The system can support redundant power via a UPS in the communications room, and because the same network is used for both control and power, Power over Ethernet devices minimize installation and maintenance costs by delivering power through high-performance twisted-pair data cabling systems, rather than dedicated 120 VAC hard-wired connections. Messages can also be sent to the displays via Inova’s Emergency Email Interface (EEI) software. These PoE appliances carry the CE Mark and are RoHS compliant.
